QR codes project

Qr codes what is the size?
To effectively scan the QR code it should appear to be at least 1cm (0.4 inches) across in the viewport of the scanning device, and as the distance between the camera and the QR code increases, the size of the QR code will need to increase to compensate. For most smartphones the relationship between scan distance and minimum QR code size is approximately 10:1 so a 2.5cm (1 inch) QR code printed in a magazine will have a nominal effective scan distance of about 250mm (10 inches), and a QR code on a billboard 20 metres (65 feet) from the where a passer-by would be scanning it would probably need to be about 2 metres (6.5 feet) across.

SOLUTION:
On the microsoft office piture manager we have resized one QR code from 100% to 75% to 50% but this is too small therefore we tried 60% and it was a decent size.
 55% is the standard size.

Internet Addresses

1.    What is a URL?
It is the address of a website.

2.    What is an IP address and how is it related to a URL?
It is a set of 4 numbers that identifies the URL address. It is numbers to represent letters. Each computer has a unique IP address.

3.    Given our school website's URL is http://www.mcauley.nsw.edu.au, what is our domain name and what protocol do you need to use to access the site?
http://webserver.mcauley.nsw.edu.au:81/ , The protocol is HTTP.

4.    In the context of an IP address, what is an octet?
An octet is a unit of digital information in computing and telecommunications that consists of eight bits. The term is often used when the term byte might be ambiguous, as historically there was no standard definition for the size of the byte.

Broadband Speedtest

  1. What is meant  by upload and download speeds?
The time it takes to upload the image or the time it takes to download the image.
2. What are the units used to measure download speeds?

How did the internet originate!

Q1)   It originated from the military bases. In case there were any bombs they wanted to secure all their data and so they created the ARPANET to connect to other computers.
Q2)   The military, ARPANET to secure data in case any bombing happened.
Q3) Internet protocol it is comprised of 4 sets of numbers which are unique IP addresses for each computer. IP packet of data it has an address which is unique it has the address of the recipient
Q4) Transmission Control Protocol, TCP will count them and say its missing a packet it requests the packet to be retransmitted again.
Q5)  Because it keeps everything shorter. Computers work on number which letters represent.Domain named service changes letters to numbers.

·         I made the QR codes for my website.
Q4) Problems and solutions:
·         We did it at home because the internet was slow and we had access from google dox to work on it at home.
·         QR reader onto people’s phone’s (we had instructions showing them how to download the app on the poster.)
·         Photo files (had to organise from certain place to destinations so that it was easier to put them on the website it saved time because that was one of the limitations/constraints.)
·         Google dox( knowing the status of each website was the problem)

Bits and Bytes

Definitions:

1)      Digit- A digit is a single place that can hold numerical values between 0 and 9. Digits are normally combined together in groups to create larger numbers.

2)     Base 10- It is our decimal (base-10) number system. In our customary base-ten system, we have digits for the numbers zero through nine. We do not have a single-digit numeral for "ten". Yes, we write "10", but this stands for "1 ten and 0 ones". This is two digits; we have no single solitary digit that stands for "ten".

3)     Computers use binary numbers, and therefore use binary digits in place of decimal digits. The word bit is a shortening of the words "Binary digIT."

4)     (4*1000)+(3*100)+(2*10)+(1*1)=4000+300+2+1.

5)       Binary  form : 21(10101), 24(11100), 30(11110)
Example of 30 :

6)      Bits are rarely seen alone in computers. They are almost always bundled together into 8-bit collections, and these collections are called bytes.

7)      Bytes:

Kilobytes- 1,024

Megabytes- 1,048,576

Gigabytes- 1,073,741,824

Terabytes- 1,099,511,627,776

Mini project- Social Issues related to database

Today we formed a group of 3 and allocated every person doing 2 questions. In this group we have Celine, Rachael, and me. Rachael has set up a goole docs so we can work on it all together from anywhere with internet access.

Database Definitions

Q1) Definitions:
Field: A colleciton of fields makes up a records and records make up databases. Each field holds one type of information and there are many tables of different information and all this is collected and put into one record.
Record: A record is basically a collection of  fields with different information. A set of these records are put into a file.
File: This is a collection of data which holds records and fields about a certain person's or item's information.
Query: Querys search for records that match field criterea/s. We are able to search multiple records.
Database: A database is a collection of information organised on a computer. It allows easy access to data that you want or that you desire. It is like a electronical filing system.
Report: A formatted and organized presentation of data.
DBMS: Stands for Database Management System it is a collection of programs that allows you to store, modify, and extract information from a database.
Data Dictionary: It is a file that outlines the basic organisation  of a database. the number of records in each file, and the names and types of each field within a database.
Data Type: A  particular type of  data that is held in database.
Q2) Aid of Table:
Q3) Commonly used databases:

Querying a Database

This is how you make a query.

This is the first query made to specify what contacts and phone numbers are in the country USA.

This is a query that catogorises all confections and product names and suppliers for the product.

This query categorises all the products that were >20.

This query shows which products have >30 in stock.

Creating a Database

In creating databases, tables are essential. These tables hold all information on certain fields which make up records. All the information put into a table is related to each other. In order to make fields for date of birth we have to change the data type into date and time. If it is an image the data type changes into an object. The names a text data type. Once we create a database we are able to search and make a query for desired categories.

Database Activity: The Yellow Pages

What is a database? A database is a collection of information organised on a computer. It allows easy access to data that you want or that you desire. It is like a electronical filing system.
Examples of databases.
Telephone book, Phone contacts, Roll attendence, Active database, Distributed database, Document-oriented database, Cloud database, In-memory database.
Wolfram Alpha : Why is it different and what may be a limitation for this site.
This is a knowledge database which makes it different to other databases. This site can only provide knowledge based solutions and problems and other related information.
Yellow Pages Website
Q1) Bennett Office Supplies, phone number: (02) 4782 2228, shop number 122 Katoomba street.
Q2) M & A Fresh Cut Flowers,  map http://www.whereis.com/?id=2D06560D9F97EF
Q3) . Noosa Heads Motel , 71 Noosa Drv, Noosa Heads QLD 4567, ph: (07) 5440 4550
Q4) Yes
  • Yes yellow/white pages is a database. This is because it has collected the information of address so we are able to find locations. We can search any shop of a kind and it will give you results of your preference. It has the ability to find places in certain locations you desire.
  • It is much more convenient and time saving. We are able to type in a location and what we want and it searches results straight away on the other hand the book version it would take time to search through the whole book and find the category you want. Online we can just tyoe straight away into a search engine.
  • It may give away other people's addresses and may be disadvantaging to those who don't have internet as the online version would not be accessable for them at all.
